Overview

Trip Overview

This 4-day London vacation showcases the many sides of England’s capital. It features moderate accommodations, shared tours, and is a perfect city stay for globetrotters wanting to experience London’s multifaceted charms.

Your England vacation centres on London, one of the most-visited cities on the planet—and justifiably so. With history stretching back to Roman times and some of the finest architecture, galleries, and culture on the planet, people have been prioritizing London vacations for centuries. Start with a sightseeing tour from the top of a vintage double-decker bus. You’ll flit around the city and stop off at iconic landmarks, including Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, the Tower of London, and Buckingham Palace. The next day, escape to the countryside for a tour of “England in a day.” First stop is Stonehenge, the mystical rock formation that is at least 5,000 years old and was likely the site of worship for ancient Britons. Next up is Bath, home to Britain’s only hot springs and a site of ancient Roman ruins. Continue into the Cotswolds, which offer an iconic vision of Britain with its dry stone walls and bustling market towns. End the day in Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare, where you’ll see his old home and Holy Trinity Church where he was buried.

On your final full day, explore the royal home of Windsor Castle, the largest and oldest continuously-occupied castle in the world. Marvel at the castle’s size and admire some of its many treasures, from Queen Mary’s elaborate doll house to the tombs of Henry VIII and Charles I. Then back to London proper, where you can have one last pint and fit in some fish and chips if you haven’t already. Consider extending your stay in London, as it’s a city you’ll want to explore in full.

This England vacation gives you a taste of the iconic sights that London and its surrounds have to offer.

Vintage Double-Decker Afternoon Tour and Cruise

What better way to see the highlights of London than from the upper level of a vintage double-decker bus? Take in excellent views of Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, the London Eye, St. Paul's Cathedral and the Tower of London on a meandering route, sweeping through the streets and history of the English capital. The tour also includes a boat trip on the river Thames as well as a visit to Buckingham Palace, the official Royal residence of His Majesty the King. Following your time at Buckingham, the scene shifts to the river Thames where you'll set off on serene sailing coursing through the central waterway of London, passing sites of interest including Shakespeare's Globe, London Bridge, the Shard and Tower Bridge before arriving at the London Eye pier, where you'll disembark. Shortly after, you'll be returned to the Victoria Coach Station where you'll bid farewell to your guide and enjoy time on your own. Important note: The Changing of the Guards only takes place in the morning and therefore cannot be seen on this afternoon excursion.

First we head straight for Stonehenge the most popular prehistoric monument in the world. Come and marvel at the huge 40 ton Sarsens and the volcanic blue stones that were brought from Preseli mountains over 280 miles away. Discover the mysteries that surround the slaughter stone and see the numerous earth barrows where the beaker people lie buried before heading through the Salisbury plains towards Bath. Bath and the Cotswolds. Bath, a world heritage site, is a beautiful Georgian city with delightful crescents, terraces and architecture. There will be plenty of time to shop and explore before we enjoy a drive through the Cotswolds. As we head north to Stratford we drive through the heart of the Cotswolds, taking in breathtaking views of open countryside criss-crossed by dry stone walls and bustling market towns with magnificent perpendicular churches. Stratford-upon-Avon. Birthplace of William Shakespeare, the greatest writer in the English language, and home to the Royal Shakespeare Company. Stratford is a charming market town set in the heart of rural England. A delightful river winds its way through the town, past the beautiful Holy Trinity church, where Shakespeare lies buried. Described as ‘one of the most atmospheric, magical and important buildings in the whole of Britain,’ Shakespeare’s Schoolroom and Guildhall opened its doors to the public for the first time in 2016 to mark the 400th anniversary of the writers death. Step back in time to the 1570’s when William Shakespeare was a pupil learning to read and write, and see the room where leading theatre companies came to perform – a strong influence on the young playwright. You will be invited to enjoy a unique tour of the school, exclusive to Premium Tours, including the chance to take part in a Tudor lesson, write with a quill and ink, and witness the rare medieval wall paintings and much more.

In the morning we head out to Windsor Castle where over 900 years of royal history are waiting for you. From William the Conqueror all the way through to our current King, successive monarchs have lived here and left their mark on what is now the largest continuously occupied castle in the world. Your ticket allows entrance to the castle, so you can see for yourself the splendor of St. Georges Chapel and the sumptuous state apartments. Windsor itself is a pretty town full of traditional shops and historic pubs. Shakespeare is said to have written his play The Merry Wives of Windsor in one of them.
