Overview

Trip Overview

This 7-day Botswana and Zimbabwe vacation takes you to Victoria Falls, Chobe National Park, and the Okavango Delta. It features first-class or deluxe accommodations, shared tours at Victoria Falls, small group tours at Chobe and the Okavango Delta, and is an ideal introduction to southcentral Africa.

Our journey begins on the borders of Zambezi National Park, where you’ll cruise along the Zambezi River, sipping sundowners and snacking on canapes as you venture on the waters above Victoria Falls. The next day, explore the mighty Victoria Falls, one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Hike through the rainforest and feel the spray from the falls mist your face as you approach its overwhelming torrents, where millions of gallons of water fall every second.

After admiring the thunderous power of Victoria Falls, connect westward to Chobe National Park, a massive game reserve known for its abundance of elephants. You’ll have a full day at leisure to explore the Park and witness elephants crossing from one side to the other or a variety of animals crowding along the banks of the Chobe River. After getting your first taste for Botswana’s natural bounty in Chobe, connect to the heart of the Okavango Delta. Here you’ll have two nights on Nxaragha Island to go bird-watching and see the many animals like zebra and hippos that populate the delta.

At the end of your stay, connect back to Maun and continue to your onward destination.

After breakfast you will be picked up for a guided tour of Victoria Falls. No surprise why Victoria Falls is one of the seven Natural Wonders of the World. Seeing the rainbows, feeling the spray and hearing the thundering noise of water crashing down into the 108 meter gorge serves as a testimony to the awesome power of the mighty river. The remainder of your afternoon is spent at leisure, where you can enjoy one of the many optional activities available (own account). Afterwards, return to the lodge to relax, or why not go into Victoria Falls town to view the markets for African curios? Later this afternoon, depart on your sunset cruise. Put your feet up, sip a sundowner as the light gently fades, and let this tranquil wildlife cruise float you along the Zambezi River above the Falls. You will have the finest vantage point from which to watch the hippo, crocodiles and other animals which come down to the river's edge in the evening, to quench their thirst.

Today you will be transferred to the airstrip for your air transfer into the heart of the Okavango Delta which measures 15,000 square kilometers (5,792 sq. miles) with some 1,800 square kilometers (695 sq. miles) of which is part of the Moremi Wildlife Reserve. The Okavango River itself rises in western Angola, and ultimately flows into the Kalahari. The Okavango Delta is one of Africa's most baffling mysteries. Born among the mists and lushness of Angola's fertile highlands far away to the northwest, the Okavango River bursts its banks and millions of litres of water flow into the scorched desert instead of the sea. The web of channels created by this odd quirk of nature never stays the same because no two floods are ever the same. The delta is set in the Kalahari basin. The floodwaters travel 1,300 kilometres to revitalize a vast network of plant and animal life. This unusual environment is home to 36 species of mammals, 200 species of bird and 80 species of fish. Depending on your camp choice, there are many activities to explore the Okavango, either by Mokoro, a traditional dug-out canoe, by boat or wilderness walks on nearby islands.
