Amazing Experience

Overview

Trip Overview

This 12-day South Africa safari explores the best of the Mother Country from game reserve to Cape, with a spectacular finish at neighbouring Victoria Falls.

Transfer from Johannesburg to Kapama Private Game Reserve. Neighbouring Kruger National Park, this carefully preserved slice of pre-colonial Africa offers superb safari opportunities. Be ready for early starts and exhilarating sightings on morning and afternoon game drives, when the animals are at their most active. After sundowners, a night drive introduces you to the Reserve’s nocturnal inhabitants.

Fly to Cape Town to explore a completely different side of South Africa. The coastline that stretches along the Cape Peninsula is a standout in a country rich with spectacular coastal strips. You may wish to visit Seal Island before following Chapman’s Peak Drive along the cliffs. Table Mountain looms in the distance as you return to town, and what a town it is! Cape Town sits on one of the most beautiful natural locations on Earth, and you’ll have two full days to explore it at leisure. Take in views from the top of Table Mountain, or visit infamous Robben Island, former home to the political prison that held Nelson Mandela.

Fly to Zimbabwe for the last stop on your Africa tour. Often in the news for all the wrong reasons, beautiful Zimbabwe still holds one of the world’s must-see natural wonders, Victoria Falls. This dramatic wall of water has been slowly retreating over millennia, creating the striking gorges that channel the mighty Zambezi downstream. Take a sunset cruise on the River, and spend a day at leisure that might include white water rafting, bungee jumping, or a sensational helicopter ride over the Falls.

Kapama Karula Lodge

The days start with an early wake-up call between 5am and 5:30am. Tea, coffee and rusks are enjoyed together before heading out at first light. While seeing big game is always exhilarating, there are many other smaller species that are also captivating, and birding enthusiasts will be delighted at the approximately 350 species of birds recorded on the reserve. Halfway through the game drive, there's a stop for hot drinks and snacks, before returning to the lodge at around 9am for a full breakfast. Throughout the day, it's likely you will see wildlife around the lodge - nyala antelope and vervet monkeys are frequent visitors, though seeing some of the Big Five is also not uncommon. At around 3:30pm, everyone gathers for a decadent high tea, before heading out with your ranger and tracker for the afternoon game drive through the reserve. En route, you'll stop for a sundowner drink and will have a chance to stretch your legs as you watch the sun set over the distant peaks of the Drakensberg Mountains. As darkness falls, the nocturnal animals of the bush come out. The skilled tracker will scan the landscape using a spotlight, which illuminates animals' eyes. A variety of completely different species can be seen on the night drive back to the lodge. Arrival is at the lodge is usually around 7pm, allowing time to freshen up before enjoying a sumptuous dinner.
