Overview

Trip Overview

This 7-day Maltese vacation takes you to Malta to explore Valletta, Gozo, and Mdina. It features first-class accommodations and private tours.

Your journey takes you to Malta and a hotel on Silema’s seafront promenade. Malta is an ancient archipelago nation in the Mediterranean with history tracing back to antiquity and a culture formed from diverse influences ranging from Roman to Islamic to British. In the capital, Valletta, a half-day tour will showcase its ancient infrastructure and medieval landmarks, from the stunning views and ancient ramparts of Barrakka Gardens to St. John’s Cathedral and the Grand Masters Palace, the two central icons of the Order of St. John.

On Gozo, you’ll explore Malta’s sister island on a full day tour that takes you alongside the striking sun-bleached scenery and into small fishing villages where locals pry the same trade as their forebearers. You can also visit the Temples of Ggantija and the Place of Giants, some of the oldest prehistoric temples in the world. You’ll also have time to see Dwejra and the Cittadella in Victoria. Finally, in Mdina, head on a half-day tour through the narrow avenues of the “Silent City,” named because it was largely deserted once Valletta became the capital. Enjoy stunning views of the rest of the island as you head along its medieval and Baroque bastions. The rest of your time in Malta is at leisure to hit the beach or go shopping along the friendly promenades.

At the end of your stay, connect back to the airport to continue to your next destination or return home.

Today's private tour will start with a trip to Valletta, Malta's capital city, for a guided tour through the bustling streets. You will first stop at the Barrakka Gardens - built on the elevated bastion ramparts. These beautiful gardens command stunning panoramic views of the Grand Harbor and the three cities. Take an in-depth tour of the famous St. John's Cathedral (optional), the splendid church that was originally the conventual church of the Order of St. John. With its fine Baroque architecture, elaborate Grand Masters' monuments and exclusive precious works of art including a Caravaggio this cathedral is not to be missed. After the Cathedral, you have the opportunity to visit the Grand Masters Palace (optional) - this Magisterial Palace was the official and private residence of the Grand Master of the Order. Today the Palace is the splendid residence of the President of Malta. In the Palace there are two rooms that can be visited; The Armoury Room and The State Rooms.

Today you will start the day early in order to visit Malta's sister island of Gozo. Gozo, is barely 20 minutes away from the mainland and offers a unique Mediterranean setting. It is an island where time has stood still, where traditions and customs form part of the daily life of the Islanders. It offers beautiful scenic views as most of the population still follow their forefathers trades of farmers and fishermen. During this excursion, visit the Temples of Ggantija or Place of Giants (optional), which is the only major prehistoric site on the Island of Gozo. The temple is among the oldest and best preserved in the world. You will also visit the inland sea in Dwejra, Ta' Pinu Church, Xlendi Bay and the Citadella in Victoria. Free time for shopping will also be given as Gozo is well known for its woolen goods and handmade lace.

The tour will start with a short walk around the narrow winding roads leading to the area of St Paul's Catacombs and Grotto where you have an opportunity to visit the Catacombs (optional). On leaving Rabat you enter Mdina also known as the 'Silent City'- its foundations date back to prehistoric times and witnessing the country's major historical events with its strategic position on one of the land's highest plateaus. This walled city enjoys spectacular views of the country side that can be appreciated from the bastions. During your walk in the silent city, you will have the opportunity to visit Mdina Cathedral (optional) and the imposing bastions that affords a panoramic view of most of the island.
