Few civilizations have inspired awe to rival Egypt. Embark on a journey through time and myth on this 8-day group trip through the land of the pharaohs, from the mighty pyramids of Giza and Saqqara to the intricate temple complexes of Aswan and Luxor.
Arrive in Egypt and shake off the jetlag before setting out to the sole surviving Ancient Wonder of the World, the Pyramids of Giza. You’ll have the option to go inside the mighty Cheops Pyramid while learning about these incredible 2 million+ + block structures. Enjoy a short camel ride, and a visit to the Great Sphinx before going on to Saqqara necropolis and step pyramid. You’ll stop in at a carpet maker to learn about how Egypt’s coveted carpets are created before returning to your hotel.
The following day, explore Cairo proper, starting with the Citadel, Old Cairo, and the Coptic Churches that defined the early city. The Coptic Museum offers you a glimpse of early Christianity in Egypt, while a visit to the Civilization Museum invites you to step into Egypt’s past, with cutting-edge technology exploring the mummification process.
Fly to Aswan, deep in Egypt’s south, and visit the High Dam that regulates the modern-day Nile. You’ll also explore the Temple of Philae, arguably the most spectacular temple of the Ptolemaic Period, dedicated to the god Isis. Board your downriver Nile cruise and sail to Kom Ombo, the dual temple dedicated to Sobek, the crocodile god, and Horus, the god of the morning sun. In the afternoon, reach Edfu, one of the most intact temples in Egypt, reached via horse-drawn carriage. Arrive in Luxor in the evening.
Luxor has been called a living museum of Egypt’s most impressive tombs, temples, and monuments. But it is also an ever-changing story as more discoveries are made every year. Visit the Valley of the Kings and Queens, the Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut, and the Colossi of Memnon on the West Bank, then see the twin temples of intricate Luxor and enormous Karnak, linked by the Avenue of Sphinxes, in the afternoon.
For your final full day in Egypt, fly back to Cairo and explore Khan El Khalili in the evening. This spectacular bazaar is beloved by both Egyptians and tourists alike and is a great place to pick up any last-minute souvenirs before your group’s farewell dinner.
