Begin in Santiago, the Chilean capital, where you'll have a night to get situated in this surprising South American city before venturing to the world-famous Atacama Desert. The moonlike canyon of dunes and jagged rocks formed from millions of years of erosion and is one of the most astounding landscapes currently on the planet. Explore the valley and some of its geological landmarks, including the Central Crater and Kari Lookout, where you can admire the canyon come to life with a multitude of colours at sunset.
Head to the Salar de Atacama salt flat, discover lagoons home to thousands of bright flamingoes and enjoy an Andean astronomy tour at nightfall. In Toconao, you'll admire the original architecture carved from volcanic stone before reaching El Tatio geysers, where you can watch geysers explode 50m in the air and spot vicunas and llamas in the countryside.
Return to Santiago and head on a city tour to see some of the city's most famous sights. Start in the central square, Plaza de Armas, before stopping by Moneda Palace and winding your way up Santa Lucia Hill. Enjoy lunch at a local cafe before continuing to the Central Market for more local delicacies and souvenirs. Head to Maipo Alto from Santiago for a delicious and scenic wine-tasting tour of the Perez Cruz Vineyard.
Connect south to the Patagonian town of Punta Arenas, in the far southern reaches of Chile. Transfer to nearby Puerto Natales and explore the world-renowned Torres del Paine National Park. You'll also explore rugged landscapes alongside Lake Nordenskiold and Laguna Amarga. You'll have another day to discover the quiet township of Puerto Natales or further explore Torres del Paine.
