This 11-day French vacation takes you on an artistic journey from Paris to Provence and finally Nice, with visits to Giverny, Versailles, Camargue, and Cannes along the way. It features moderate accommodations and small group tours.
Your journey begins in Paris, the French capital and City of Light. Simply stepping foot in Paris is an enchanting experience, as the old, art nouveau corridors of the city centre seem to have an endless supply of beloved landmarks and artsy hideaways. You’ll trace the history of some of the most beloved French artists at the Musee d’Orsay. Enjoy an intimate tour in the company of an expert guide through the train station-turned art museum, admiring Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings by the likes of Monet, Manet, Renoir, and Van Gogh. Continue the artistic journey the next day with a visit to the gardens of Giverny to see the small house and tranquil pond that inspired Monet’s work. After a visit to the Musee des Impressionnismes Giverny and lunch, continue to Versailles to see Louis XIV’s palace gardens and state rooms that exemplify the height of French opulence. You’ll have another day at leisure in Paris to see landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre that you missed on your first few days.
Connect by train to Aix-en-Provence, in the heart of the sunny southern French region. A full-day tour will take you through many of the most popular villages of this beloved region. Stroll through the quiet streets of Saint-Remy-de-Provence, gaze upon the rocky outcrops of Les Baux-de-Provence, and finally walk in the footsteps of Van Gogh in Arles and see the Roman amphitheatre left over from antiquity.
Continue onward to Nice, the attractive city that defines the French Riviera. A full-day tour of the Provence countryside will take you along the bay and Croissette of Cannes, where the famous film festival is held each year, inland to the perfume capital of Grasse to tour a factory and smell some of the core ingredients of iconic fragrances, and up into the Alps to Gourdon to enjoy the spectacular views of the blue waters of the Mediterranean from the “Balcony of the French Riviera.” You’ll have another day at leisure in Nice to stroll along the promenade, admire Matisse’s paintings at the Musee Matisse, and visit the hilltop castle.
At the end of your stay, connect to the airport to return home.
