In order to offer the best game viewing opportunities possible, both walking safaris and 4x4 safaris are a part of every day. Each morning at sunrise, guests will embark on a 2-3 hour-long walk through the Big 5 territory, and every afternoon brings a game drive in an open-top Land Rover.
During summer, an early wake-up at 5:00 AM starts the day (while winter is later at 5:45 AM). It gets very hot and guides like to bring guests back to camp before 9:00 AM while it is still cool. Walks take between 2 and 3 hours and are followed by a hearty breakfast at the dining table. Between 11:00 AM and 2:30 PM guests have time to themselves. Relax with a book, take a nap with the sounds of the local birdlife, have a dip in the pool and catch a tan in the sun. At 2:30 PM lunch is served, consisting of salads, cheese, cold meat and a light quiche or pie. Game drive begins at 3:30 PM and traverses this exceptional area of the Klaserie. At the time the sun sets, guides take their guests to a spot where they can snack on biltong, nuts and chips, while sipping on something cold. Return to the lodge by 7:30 PM and freshen up before dinner at about 8.30pm.
Africa on Foot is a unique camp in the Kruger that offers professional guided walking safaris with qualified trail guides. Each Walking Safari lasts about from 2-3 hours and begins with a comprehensive demonstration on how to behave when encountering animals. All Walking Safaris are led by qualified rangers who have had intensive specialized training in approaching dangerous game.
In the evenings, guests are taken on game drive, which brings you a lot closer to big game. The animals are habituated to the vehicle, which means that they are used to the vehicle approaching them and know that it never causes them harm. This enables to you to get within five to 10 metres of the larger predators; even while they're feasting on a recent kill. The night drives allow guests the opportunity to see the nocturnal animals not encountered during the day. Your chances of seeing leopard in particular are a lot higher at night and with a bit of luck you might even encounter the predators such as lion and leopard hunting. During the night drives, your tracker uses a powerful spotlight to search for nocturnal animals.
Africa on Foot Camp has 5 chalets ensuring an intimate and personal safari experience. For the more adventurous there is a treehouse which can be booked at no extra cost. On balmy summer days guests can relax at the splash pool and enjoy a traditional South African barbecue (braai) around the camp fire area in the boma. Each chalet has an indoor or outdoor shower, comfortable beds, solar-powered lamps and mosquito nets.
