After Breakfast, your guide will meet you at your hotel for an an immersive city tour of Muscat. Your cultural journey begins with the awe-inspiring Grand Mosque, a true architectural masterpiece (please note, visits are not available on Fridays).
Next, venture to Bait Al Zubair, a privately owned museum that houses an impressive collection of Omani artifacts, offering a glimpse into the country’s rich heritage. Your tour then takes you to Al Alam Palace, one of Sultan Qaboos’s royal residences. Here, you will have a chance to capture the palace’s stunning beauty during a brief photo stop. The palace is flanked by the 16th-century Portuguese forts Mirani and Jalali, standing as silent sentinels of Oman’s past.
The final leg of the tour transports you to the heart of historic Muttrah. Here, you will experience the bustling energy of the traditional Muttrah Souq. This afternoon, prepare for a serene journey from your hotel to the Marina, where you will embark on a tranquil cruise aboard a traditional dhow, a boat used by fishermen for centuries. As you glide along the Muscat coast, you will see the city through the eyes of the ancient seafarers who navigated these waters for generations. During the cruise, you will visit a picturesque natural cove, offering a moment of peace and a chance to connect with nature. Do not miss the opportunity to photograph the majestic Al Bustan Palace Hotel, a jewel of Omani architecture, before you return to the Marina. On board the dhow, you will be treated to Kahwa (traditional Omani coffee), water, dates, and soft drinks to enhance your cruising experience.
After the dhow cruise, you will proceed to a special dinner with an Omani family. Upon arrival, you will be warmly greeted and invited inside to partake in some Arabic coffee and dates, a customary Omani welcome. The head of the family will then share unique insights into Omani life, from ancient times to the present. You will gain a deeper understanding of Omani culture, learning about significant festivals such as Eid, and the holy month of Ramadan. Next, journey to the village of Al Hamra, a timeless settlement nestled at the foot of the Hajar Mountains. With a history spanning over four centuries, Al Hamra is one of Oman’s oldest villages. Its allure lies in the well-preserved rows of two and three-story mud-brick houses, constructed using traditional methods that date back centuries. Visit Bait Al Safah, a traditional house transformed into a living history museum, offering a fascinating glimpse into the lives of the people who have settled and continue to reside in the area.
